Councillor for Horfield 2013 - 2020
Claire Hiscott was elected as councillor for the ward of Horfield in 2013 and served on the Mayors cabinet with the portfolio for Education and Skills. As a mother of two grown up children she understand the issues facing parents and carers seeking the best education for their children, Claire is determined to see more secondary school places and opportunities for career choices for our young people.
Claire has long campaigned for a community centre on the Manor farm estate, and is delighted that £150k has been designated to this in the mayors 2017/18 budget.
She has also championed the needs of local residents on local transport issues, supporting parking restrictions around the new Southmead hospital to protect local roads. Claire is keen to see the Horfield rail station reopen which will enable a faster link into Bristol Temple Meads and the new enterprise zone.
Claire has achieved much during her time in office including;
- Raising £150,000 in development money for a community centre
- Excellent new bus shelters – with community involvement in design
- Speed monitoring on our local streets
- Junction protection on our small roads to prevent hospital staff parking causing dangerous roads
Claire is working toward several goals for the local community and would love to see:
- A community centre for manor farm; the residents desperately need and deserve a meeting place for events and groups,
- A resolution to the nightmare of Southmead hospital parking – we will keep pushing for more onsite parking for staff to give back our streets to local residents.
- Development our sports field on Dorian Road; this needs to be a field for everyone to enjoy for sport and exercise, it is currently used as a dog exercise and poop area!
- To ensure the housing developments on the Northern fringe (south gloucs) has adequate infrastructure built in – schools and transport links, otherwise our roads will be filled to bursting with commuters and our schools will be oversubscribed.
Claire is a pharmacist by profession. She is married with two grown up children and has lived in Bristol for over 18 years. She enjoys walking and swimming, but loves a good film at a local cinema during the winter months!
