A local charity that helps people get from A to B has been given a cash boost thanks to a donation from a Chipping Sodbury councillor.
Green Community Travel provides a vital service across Yate, Sodbury and the surrounding area, helping people who are unable to use public transport and can’t otherwise get around.
Cllr Becky Romaine, Conservative councillor for Chipping Sodbury and Cotswold Edge, has donated £250 to the charity to ensure it can continue to provide a valuable service for local people.
The money has come from a dedicated fund that councillors can spend in the community and will help Green Community Travel make a few upgrades to their storage unit.
Becky said: “Green Community Travel does amazing work for some of our most vulnerable residents and I’m delighted to be able to support them with this donation.
“With so many bus routes having been lost in recent months, charities that help people to get to where they need to be are so vitally important.
“I hope Green Community Travel will continue to thrive and I’m really pleased to have been able to support them.”
Jenny Bright, Manager at GCT, said: “We’re so grateful to Becky for her support. Our storage is important as it holds our bus seats, and without this facility our service would be less flexible and less inclusive. We will now be able to replace our current storage with something that is much safer, sustainable and waterproof.
“GCT provides accessible and affordable transport across South Glos. We do local trips, hospital transport, Friends of GCT trips and even hire the buses to community groups. Transport can be pre-booked and we can also take regular bookings.”
With the help from Becky, other local councillors and Chipping Sodbury Rotary Club, the charity should be able to get a new facility in place by the end of the year.
