Lees Hill in New Cheltenham, Church Road in Frampton Cotterell, Badminton Road in Downend and Down Road in Alveston are just some roads in South Gloucestershire that will be fixed this year.
Conservative-run South Glos Council will spend more than £11m on vital road improvement schemes this year. This includes an extra £1m that was included in the Council’s budget.
It follows a commitment from the Conservatives to ensure the local road network is in top condition to make it easier for people to get around.
Almost half a million pounds will be spent improving a 460 metre stretch of Soundwell Road in Staple Hill and more than £80,000 fixing Northend Avenue in Kingswood.
A programme of road safety schemes will also be delivered, with a new pedestrian crossing being built on Four Acre Road in Downend and a new footway erected to connect Marshfield and the Home Barn development.
The cycle path on Concorde Way will be widened, the A38/Northville Road roundabout in Filton will be altered to improve road safety and further pedestrian safety measures will be explored at Damsons Bridge in Winterbourne.
New electric vehicle charging hubs will also be installed at Thornbury Leisure Centre, Bitton Railway Station and Filton Car Club Bay, as well as at other locations.
Cllr Steve Reade, Conservative Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Environment and Strategic Infrastructure on South Gloucestershire Council, said: “This expanded programme of work represents our commitment to keeping South Gloucestershire moving.
“We understand how important it is to ensure the local road network is properly looked after. That’s why people will see more potholes being filled, new road safety schemes progressed and more electric vehicle charging points installed.”
Other work taking place this year will include renewing white lines at junctions and on major routes, improving cat’s eyes for safer night-time driving, maintaining traffic lights and improving road drainage.
The full programme of work for the coming year was published by councillors last week. The work schedules for each scheme are currently being put together and the Conservatives will keep local people updated with timings in due course.
