Conservative councillors have made a New Year’s resolution to ensure South Gloucestershire continues to thrive in 2023 and beyond.
The Conservative administration on South Glos Council has vowed to continue to deliver for local people, ensuring the successes of previous years are replicated in 2023.
Since retaining control of the Council in 2019 the administration has driven up education standards, meaning the number of pupils being taught in Good or Outstanding schools has significantly increased. It has also invested tens of millions of pounds in education provision, including building new schools and refurbishing existing ones, alongside creating extra provision for children with additional learning needs.
The Conservatives have achieved record recycling rates, hitting 60 per cent for the first time ever, and taken significant action to tackle the climate emergency. They have delivered new public transport infrastructure, including new Park and Ride provision and MetroBus extensions, and invested in local high streets to boost the economy.
They have been at the forefront of campaigns to oppose the WECA Mayor’s bus cuts and unsustainable housing targets and have expanded the flagship Science Park in Lyde Green to create new jobs and bring innovative business to our region.
And thanks to the administration’s sound management of the Council’s finances year after year, 2023 will see free parking remain in place in all Council-owned car parks across South Glos.
Cllr Toby Savage, Conservative Leader of South Gloucestershire Council, said: “This Conservative administration has garnered some real achievements over the past few years, and we are confident that this success will continue into 2023 and beyond.
“By seeking to improve standards in local schools, protecting some of the most vulnerable people in our community and investing in our high streets, we are committed to ensuring South Glos remains a happy and healthy place to live and work.
“Our priorities will no doubt continue to have a hugely positive impact on the lives of local people, and we look forward to continuing to serve residents during the next Council term.”
