Stoke Gifford’s Conservative councillors have urged officers from Avon & Somerset Police to take action to tackle anti-social behaviour in the area around Mead Park.
It follows a devastating fire that destroyed the popular Mead Park children’s play area earlier this month.
Cllrs Neel DasGupta and Keith Cranney, the ward members for Stoke Gifford, are urging the local authorities to do all they can to ensure the play park is rebuilt and reopened as quickly as possible.
And at a meeting with the police on Wednesday night (28 June), Neel and Keith urged officers to step up efforts to tackle anti-social behaviour, such as installing CCTV to better protect those who use the park and the residents who live nearby.
Neel said: “The local community is extremely upset to have lost the popular Mead Park play area, and Keith and I are working to get it rebuilt. In the meantime, however, it’s vitally important that action is taken to tackle anti-social behaviour in the area.
“I will continue to press for the installation of CCTV and other measures that will help to reassure members of the community.”
Keith said: “Residents ought to feel safe in their own communities and as we saw from the incident at Mead Park earlier this month, action to stamp out anti-social behaviour needs to be stepped up.
“Neel and I will continue to work closely with the police and local authorities to see how we can improve safety at Mead Park.”
At a meeting of South Gloucestershire Council’s new Labour-Liberal Democrat Cabinet earlier this month, Neel formally appealed to the administration for help to rebuilt the play park.
A meeting of the Stoke Gifford Parish Council in July will present members with options on how to proceed.
